“That would be me abusing my access”: Tom Cruise Didn’t Try Recruiting Mission Impossible Co

Tom Cruise is the true blue megastar of Hollywood. He has the kind of box office draw that most Hollywood actors only dream of. Steven Spielberg even credited him for saving Hollywood with the $1.4 billion grossing Top Gun 2 when the pandemic had closed down theaters and put the entire industry on the edge of their seats.

So the star is highly regarded among fans and industry peers alike. As such, one has to wonder if he uses his influence to draw in people towards the one thing that has remained inseparable from him for about three decades now- Scientology. His Mission Impossible franchise co-star has addressed those questions.

Simon Pegg, a regular in the Mission Impossible franchise, sat down for an interview on BBC's Desert Island Discs radio show. There he answered the one question fans are most curious about- has he talked to Tom Cruise about Scientology? To this, Pegg said that he doesn't peer into the personal beliefs of his co-star.

It's because he thinks, "that would be me abusing my privileged access that I get to him." It's also interesting that Cruise hasn't broached this topic with him because the Top Gun star is famed for inducting actresses into Scientology. Katie Holmes and Nicole Kidman, who were married to Tom Cruise, were rumored to be a part of Scientology during their marriages.

However, they left the religious group after their divorce. There are also rumors that Cruise's new partner and Mission Impossible 7 co-star, Hayley Atwell, has joined the fringe group as well. But there has been no official confirmation regarding the matter. So now it begs the question, what does Simon Pegg talk to the mega action star about?

During the interview, Simon Pegg revealed that he mainly talked to Tom Cruise about his fame and teased him for it. He said, "We joke about it. I mean, I always make fun of him for it, you know, about the things that he can access." Giving an example of a normal day in the life of Cruise he said:

"We were filming in South Africa recently on this mountain and then he decided he wanted to swim with sharks. He flew us in a helicopter to this seaside part and we dived with sharks. At the end of the day, we said, ‘That was a real Tom Cruise kind of day.’ He kind of appreciates the ridiculousness of it sometimes."

As for his equation with the Knight and Day star, Pegg Reveals that it's "simple and amiable" because it's "a very easy relationship." But does the Shaun of the Dead star want Cruise's level of fame? The actor doesn't because he would find it "stressful and overwhelming." Overall, he is happy with where he is regarding his life and career.
