The GeoWebFace originated in and is sponsored by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) Oil, Gas, and Minerals Division (OGMD). Users can view information about non-renewable geological resource activities regulated under: Part 615 "Oil and Gas Rules and Regulations", Part 625 "Mineral Wells", Part 631 "Mine Reclamation", Part 632 "Nonferrous Metallic Mining", Part 635 "Coal Mines", and Part 637 "Sand Dune Mining".

You may also download oil and gas datasets such as Driller's Logs, Permit Well Files, and RasterLogs for selected wells or by the county. Base map features and image backdrops are included as well as layers specific to this application. With the GeoWebFace application, you can locate oil and gas wells and mining sites, as well as display associated geologic information including Glacial Geology, Structural Geology, Outcrops, Bedrock Geology, Gravity, Magnetics, Shaded Relief, Hillshade, Waterfall Locations, Wetlands Inventory, Town, Range, and Section, State Ownership, State Mineral Leases, Federal Lands, and National Forests.

This is a free set of tools that provides a wide array of geologic information for natural resource management, educational and general interests. Additional programs are not needed but can be added to suit individual needs. It can be accessed by anyone, at anytime, anywhere the web is available.

This is one of the largest publicly accessible record sets in Michigan. When you access the application, the next step may not be obvious. We recommend reviewing the user guide before diving in.

Open GeoWebFace

Always obtain permission before entering private property. Do not trespass. Inclusion in the GeoWebFace does not grant or otherwise imply that access is allowed or authorized.

Significant GeoWebFace enhancements have been made to increase its usefulness and ease of data access especially in the area of mining and minerals. These include the ability to identify on any layer to get more information and to be able to click on a hyperlink ("More Info") to an external website, map cross-section or document. One can also select features from any layer and view additional information in the Results Tab. From the Result Tab you can export the data to an Excel spreadsheet.

Many enhancements have been made to the table of contents (Layer Tools Tab) including combining the layers list and the legend, collapsible major layer categories, and clear identification of scale dependent layers. Other enhancement include increasing the Results Tab capability from 200 to 5000 records, better printing, and many more options for labeling oil & gas wells. 30 additional layers have been added mostly focusing on mining and minerals and Michigan geology. The maps and information provided through GeoWebFace are designed for planning and educational activities, not for the legal determination of property boundaries, mineral rights or related issues. The users should be aware of and abide by all relevant regulations before taking any action. The DEQ provides this data, related materials and services "as is."
