Why June Is the Biggest and Best Movie Month of 2023

Jul 04, 2023

From The Flash to Indiana Jones 5, a plethora of highly anticipated films will be released in June, making it the year's biggest and best movie month.

So far, this year has been fantastic, with a slew of fascinating films released in recent months, like Evil Dead Rise, M3GAN, Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, John Wick: Chapter 4, and many more. With its enormous number of anticipated films, the month of June will surpass all of those and potentially even the entire year of 2023.

This June will not only offer a plethora of movies through various streaming platforms but will also see many theatrical releases, including the highly anticipated DC movie, The Flash, as well as a sequel to the Indiana Jones franchise. So, here are a handful of them to look forward to this June as they arrive in theaters near you or on a streaming service you own.

If you've watched Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse, which is a masterpiece in its own right, the sequel appears to have outdone it in every way possible, as it was released in theaters globally on June 1. The sequel, based on Marvel Comics, sees the return of Miles Morales as he catapults throughout the Multiverse after inadvertently meeting a team of Spider-People.

Similar to Into the Spiderverse, but with more intricate and intriguing events, Miles must defend the whole existence of the Multiverse while working with alternate versions of himself as new enemies emerge from other dimensions.

Films based on Stephen King novels, especially The Shining, IT, and Cujo, have mostly been big-screen successes. This June, we will see another adaptation of one of the famed author's short stories from 1973, titled "The Boogeyman." The story follows Sadie Harper, a high school student, and her younger sister Sawyer, who have recently lost their mother and are struggling to connect with anyone.

However, when a desperate patient appears at their doorstep seeking help from their father, who happens to be a therapist, the family is forced to confront their greatest despair. The Boogeyman should be one of the best horror films this year, given the success of other adaptations of Stephen King's works.

Despite being a standalone film, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the seventh installment in the Transformers live-action franchise and acts as a sequel to Bumblebee and a prequel to Transformers (2007).

The film, based on Hasbro's Transformers toy line, is set in 1994 Brooklyn and follows Noah, an ex-military electronics expert, and Elena, a researcher, as they become entangled in a three-way conflict between Predacons, Terrorcons, and Maximals, ultimately helping Optimus Prime and the Autobots in saving Earth from the Unicron.

Extraction might be a perfect franchise for Chris Hemsworth as it brings out the best action star in him, and Extraction 2 would be the apex film of what fans would anticipate from the actor following Thor: Love and Thunder. Extraction 2 is an upcoming action thriller written by Joe Russo (Avengers: End Game) and based on Ande Parks' graphic novel Ciudad.

Set after the events of the previous film, it follows Tyler Rake, who returns as a mercenary after being presumed dead for nine months to save the family of a ruthless Georgian mobster who is about to get wiped out. Extraction 2 will be available on Netflix on June 16.

Pixar's Elemental may appear to be a typical animated picture from the studio, but it promises to be the most demanding production it has ever undertaken. Elemental, based on director Peter Sohn's real-life struggle, depicts the narrative of two opposing elements, Ember (Leah Lewis) and Wade (Mamoudou Athie), who reside in a city where the inhabitants take the form of various elements. Despite their complete opposites (water and fire), they create a strong bond, only to discover they have far more in common than they realize.

The story of Flash traveling back in time to save his mother from death is not new, having already been told in The CW's The Flash starring Grant Gustin. However, the upcoming DC film, The Flash, will tell the story in an exhilarating way, with Barry's desire to save his mother trapping him in an alternate reality with no metahumans. In order to save the planet from General Zod and return to his universe, he must seek the aid of his younger self and other superheroes, such as Supergirl and an older Batman.

The Indiana Jones film series is one of the most cherished franchises due to its fantastic adventurous premise and Harrison Ford's never-ending affection for his role as Indy. Even though the previous film, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, disappointed fans, the upcoming picture, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, has the potential to revive the franchise.

The film, which sees the introduction of new characters, Helena Shaw (Pheobe Waller-Bridge) and Jurgen Voller (Mads Mikkelsen), tells Indy's story as he travels with his goddaughter Helena in a quest for the Dial, which Indy helped Basil Shaw in obtaining from Jurgen Voller. Meanwhile, the US government entrusted Jurgen Voller with defeating the Soviet Union in a space competition. How will these two pathways intersect, and what adventures lie ahead for Indiana Jones fans?

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be released in theaters on June 30.
