Ripples returns after 30 years — Saturday Magazine — The Guardian Nigeria News
After 30 years of being rested, the TV soap opera, Ripples, which aired on the NTA network between 1988 and 1993 will stage a comeback as Ripples: The New Generation.
The TV show, which showcases the clash between the old and new generations, sets off a chain reaction of life-altering events fueled by greed, lust, lies, and love. It will premiere on June 21, exclusively on DStv Africa Magic Showcase Channel 151. It will also have fans on edge every Wednesday at 21:00 WAT.
In the new series, a remarkable young woman, Doris Dehinde-Phillips, finds herself on the brink of inheriting not only the Dehinde-Phillips’ fortune but also a staggering 75 per cent share of DP Oil following her grandmother, Leslie Dehinde-Phillips’ passing.
Destined for greatness, Doris was raised to take the reins as Chief Executive Officer of DP Oil. But beneath her seemingly perfect life, she yearns for something more elusive – freedom, which was dashed when a dramatic protest against DP Oil, led by the elders of a Niger-Delta community erupted following an oil spill.
The oil spill caused by one of the company's wells, resulted in severe pollution, further complicating matters. Determined to extricate herself from the situation and pursue her desires, Doris unwittingly falls into the clutches of Talab Abass, a ruthless executive within the company who harbours a desperate aspiration to become CEO.
Convinced that Talab holds the key to her liberation, Doris finds herself tempted to make a fateful decision. In exchange for her freedom, she contemplates handing over DP Oil on a silver platter to her newfound confidant. Little does she know that Leslie's last will and testament harbours a web of surprises, revealing unforeseen twists that will leave her questioning everything.
The show is set to captivate audiences week after week with its talented cast and gripping plot. It also promises to deliver an unforgettable viewing experience filled with suspense, intrigue, and emotional rollercoasters.
It would be recalled that the producer, Zeb Ejiro, a seasoned filmmaker who is regarded as the Sheikh of Nollywood, years back hinted that the series written by award-winning screenplay writer, Joe Dudu will return with the title, and get everyone glued to the screens again.
The Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels, MultiChoice Nigeria, owners of Africa Magic, Dr. Busola Tejumola, had in March while speaking at the company's Content Discovery event, confirmed the return of the sitcom to the screen again.
According to her, the multi-national pay TV is collaborating with Ejiro to return the popular sitcom to the screen, adding that the sitcom is among the 28 more series titles Africa Magic will be bringing on screen.
Tejumola further said the sitcom will feature an original cast including Alex Usifo, Babara Soky, Clarion Chukwura, Kogi State-born Lola Alao, as well as, the emerging actors. The series ran for five years uninterrupted on NTA before it was rested in 1993.
